Capture Your Child's Life through Digital Photography

By Brooke Tseng

A new baby brings endless joy- and infinite photo opportunities. Watching your children blossom and discover their world for the first time is an extraordinary experience. Capturing these moments is not only important, but even an obsession for some parents (myself included). Having the right equipment is essential. In fact, the birth of a new baby is often what prompts many people to upgrade their cameras. In my case, we put away our 35 millimeter and bought a Sony digital. I didn't see the need for digital photography before my son's arrival, but now I couldn't imagine life without it. The ease, convenience, and options it offers overshadows anything my old camera could do. If you haven't upgraded to a digital yet, read below to find out why you should consider it.

Digital Camera Tips

  • Buy at least 4 rechargeable batteries and a charger. Always keep one set charged so that you are never without batteries.
  • If you’re using the camera for mostly 4x6 prints, you probably want to look in the range of a 3-5 mega pixel camera.
  • Look for a camera with little shutter lag. Once your baby begins moving, this becomes more important.
  • You may want to consider one with a video function. It’s convenient to capture both video and still photos on the same camera and easy to upload video to the computer.
  • When shopping for memory cards, the more memory the better. You won’t believe how many photos you’ll end up snapping of your little star.
